Official Opening of the PREWAPHARM Project

We cordially invite you to join us at the official opening of our Interreg NWE project PREWAPHARM, an initiative aimed at tackling the rising pharmaceutical pollution in water across Northwest Europe.

Northwest Europe faces a common challenge: increasing pharmaceutical residues in water due to ageing populations, high population density, and climate change. In response, seven regions are coming together in PREWAPHARM to address this issue, safeguarding human health and supporting the EU Green Deal. By uniting the health and water sectors, 18 partners and 30 associated organizations from seven regions across Northwest Europe aim to develop impactful, scalable solutions.

As Lead Partner, TCNN is excited to welcome you to the North of the Netherlands for the opening event of the PREWAPHARM project. We have designed a stimulating program that focuses on the relevance of the problem and provides a look into some of the local best practices, hosted by the partners of the Network Medicine Residues from Water Northern Netherlands.

Date: 24th April 2024
Time: 08:30 - 17:00 (including lunch and visit to best practice locations)
Location: Provincial House of Drenthe, Westerbrink 1, 9405 BJ Assen, the Netherlands

Program Highlights

The PREWAPHARM project’s primary objective is to implement best practices to effectively tackle pharmaceutical residues in water across Northwest Europe. To support this mission, we will visit the following pioneering locations that demonstrate innovative water purification technologies:

  1. Martini Hospital Groningen: Innovative techniques for removing pharmaceutical residues at the source.
  2. RWZI Garmerwolde: Pilot of water purification technologies to eliminate micropollutants (REGAIN project).
  3. RWZI Emmen (Nieuwater): Ultrapure water treatment plant aimed at removing pharmaceutical residues.
  4. Isala Hospital Meppel: The most sustainable hospital in the Netherlands, designed with sustainability principles.

These locations serve as best practice examples, with proven solutions ready to be implemented in other regions.
